In with the devil of the East, Punta del Este and Punta del Diablo, Urugauy - May 2011

Our very own picnic in the sand dunes. We are struggling to smile as we both have hangovers from the night before (see Montevideo photos).

A giant hand emerges from the sand to hold us up.

A sea lion just happened to be on the path at the harbour in Punta del Este. It made me say 'Oh'.

We moved along the coast for an hour to the beautiful Punta del Diablo. This is our German friend, Stephi, whom we met in Punta del Este. This hostel had one of the most amazing settings that we have stayed in. However, the kitchen was really grubby AND it belonged to a restaurant.

The view from one of the verandas of the hostel.

The main road.

The Chilean students whom we shared a dorm with in both hostels. They were very hungry.

The bus station, Punta del Diablo.

This is the border between Uruguay and Brasil.
One of the most inconvenient crossing ever. First, you arrive in the dead town, then you have to walk for about 2 kms with your heavy bags to the Uruguayan 'Aduana' to get stamped out. Then, you wait by the road for half an hour for a bus to take you to the Brasilian aduana, 5 kms away...The bus doesn't arrive, so you have to schlep back into town with all your belongings. The bus station tell you they can stop the bus at the border for the Brazilian stamp, so this saves a trek of a further 4km (there are no taxis anywhere), The only downside is, the bus does not go until 11pm and you are stuck in the border town ALL day. Oh, and the whole time, it's been raining. Please, avoid this border crossing if you can.
