Could this be the Quietest Capital City in the World? - Montevideo, Uruguay, May 2011

Montevideo at the weekend. You might think there might be some action at the weekend, but the centre is soooooo quiet. Huge areas are 'off limits' too. It's quite sad really.

We stayed in another YHA there and met a great group of people and we made our own fun!
Richard gets excited over his second pudding.

Dani Umpi, a famous Uruguayan pop singer, gave a free concert in the Pre Colombian Art Museum. We were well and truly with the 'in' crowd! Everyone there was so bloody cool. I highly recommend his music though - an absolute pop genius.

His stage on the grand staircase. His outfit was made from old magazines and we had met the artist who made the outfit earlier in the day. Of course, at the time we didn't have aclue what he was making.

Another YHA barbeque. On the left, our Brazilian friend Gilherme. It looks a bit lonely here, but there were plenty of us (see those we went out with the next day).

Making our own fun along the Montevideo Riviera.

A typical Montevideo tower block.

You have no idea how hungry we were when we found the 'dirty dog' stall at the market. We walked about ten kilometres to get here.

The Uruguayan stadium, the site of the first football World Cup - or so I'm told.
Pre-dancing pizza night and the legendary telling of 'The Magic Spectacles' story. I shall love this story forever.

The mad man we met in the Irish Pub...yes, sorry, the Irish pub. It was the only place with life (and on a Saturday night...).

Our group of international drunkards.  English, Irish, American, Australian and Brazilian.

Looking pretty sober on the way home.
