The Craziness of Buenos Aires - May 2011

The journey through the High Andes again. A 22 hour journey and another batty lady for Richard to talk to.
At least I got to enjoy the incredible views.

The free guided walking tour from the youth hostel.
We were lucky enough to be away for the announcement of the wedding and the wedding itself. Just unfortunate we did not get to take advantage of the extra day off work.
Puerto Madero
Buenos Aires has some fabulous street art.
We stayed at the Ritz hostel. This is the free pizza and pub quiz night. Our team cinsisted of two French lads, who were our roomies and a Italian father and son combo, who were too intelligent for their own good. They could trace their family tree back to the ninth century.
We visited Northlands School in olivos, Richard's old work place. It was great to meet them all and put face to names and they were all over the moon to see Richard.
We met Matias, our friends from Mendoza, in San Telmo for a drink. This Cuban band were amazing, we had never seen sombody play the maracas in quite that way.
Friday night in Recoleta Park. We took a bottle bubbly to meet Eileen, but we were three hours late (back from our day trip to Tigre too late) and we missed her, so had to drink the wine in the park like a pair of homeless people.
This is the width of a typical house in San Telmo, which was handed over to the slaves eventually.
Our Brazillian room mates outside the art museum in Palermo Park.
This is Rose, as Argentine/English sculptor, working in the museum. She met us and invited Richard and I over for afternoon tea the following day. Her line was; 'Do you want to see a funny house'.
Rose in the entrance way of her apartment. It was stunning, full of her wood sculptures and nik-naks.
Richard's childhood friend Guillemina and her husband Sergio, had us over for dinner.
The veterans from the Faulklands war were protesting opposite our hostel for better pensions. I made Richard put on his strongest Porteno accent when we had to walk past, especially when they were chanting 'Argentina' over and over!

The brigh 'La Boca' neighbourhood. It's very touristy now, but still enjoyable, if you canlook past all the hawkers from the restaurants. We walked there from the port, which afterwards, we found out was not an area to go exploring by foot.  There were a few dodgy looking characters on the street.

The milloin pound flower sculpture, in my hand.

We feel we are better at headstands than handstands.

Hide that flabby belly!

Richard eats the expensive flower - we had to BA after this shot.

The city guide we chanced upon in the hostel. It kept us busy for eight days.

How the other half live. A day trip to Tigre on the beautiful 'Tren de la Costa'.

We caught up with Eileen twice in the end. We went to see her guitar teacher play tango.
Her gorgeous Paraguayan neighbour, Lorena, came out and her friend Karolina from NY was visiting too. We had a blast.

We stayed at 'The Ritz' in Buenos Aires for 8 nights and became good friends with some of the staff. Dana is training to become an air hostess- good luck!

Dinner at the house of RIchard's old deputy headteacher's house. Adrianna made a gorgeous goulash type dish, filled with gnocchi and tender steak. Richard's previous headteacher Barbara was also there too. They all made me feel soooo welcome.

This is the car I want. A retro BMW - have you ever seen anything like it?
