Surviving the Home of Pickpocketing, Quito - March 2011

Quito

We arrived on the last day of carnival and were welcomed by many dodgy and drunk people swarming around the Old Town. One man, very much worse for wear, grabbed Richard's coat and demanded it! We escaped pronto - he was practically unable to stand, so could not give chase! However, when the town returned to normal, we felt quite safe wandering around, despite being pickpocketed for about four US dollars in change, from amongst some snotty tissues (hope he got a cold).

As close to Milkybar as you can get abroad -  milkybar chocolate with Nestle Dairy Crunch filling, delicious!

The pretend ecuator- the real one is much more understated about 300 meters away, but this is the one for the pics.

We took the cable car into the hills surrounding Quito. This was my non existant shadow around noon.

A delicious cheese empanada, which was more like a cheese doughnut. Again, delicious.

The roof terrace in our beautiful hostel, with our German friend. The hills in the distance to the left are where we took the cable car up to the volcano.
